The Santo Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, established in 2009 announces the 2010 Individual Artist Awards. The Foundation is a unique concept established by working, professional artists including Gary Passanise, painter, sculptor and Director of Painting at Webster University in Saint Louis and Laura Beard, painter and Assistant Professor at University of North Texas.

The Santo Foundation recognizes and assists the careers of individual visual artists. The mission is to provide individual artists with grants, travel stipends, and subsidized artist live/workspace. Graduate students, and emerging artists to mature artists are eligible for consideration. Open to all US and international artists.

A minimum of two $3,500.00 grants will be awarded in 2010. Ms. Barbara O’Brien, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, in Kansas City, MO will serve as this year’s distinguished juror. The grants may be used at the discretion of the artist.

Application submissions began March 15, 2010 and will close on June 30, 2010. Candidates are required to apply online through CaFé (callforentry.org).

Submissions must include ten jpegs (up to 1800 dpi) of current work and a resume. Artists working in any medium may apply, however CaFé does not accept video. Video artists may submit stills and website info.

    1. You may want to take another look at the submission info as they do accept video art, just not through the Cafe submission website. Instead they ask you to send stills and website info for them to view any video.

  1. It seems that there’s a little confusion, because this is what it says on the CaFE website:

    “The Santo Foundation is not accepting performance art or video art for our 2010 Call for Entry.”

    So they either are or are not accepting video art, depending on whether you look at the call on the CaFE site or here.

    1. I asked someone from Santo Foundation and he said that unfortunately the submission site they use (Cafe) does not accept videos. I agree, it’s a little unclear whether they are accepting video submissions.

      Here is his response:
      “All applicants must apply through CaFE and CaFE does not accept video. A video artist or performance artist may apply through CaFE but only through stills. We generally have not advertised the still option as it may not seem like a fair representation of the work. Some video/performance artists have chosen to use the still option anyway.”
