In partnership with the Brooklyn Arts Council, the Level Hotel Brooklyn welcomes online entry for the Lobby Art Commission. This is an open call to Brooklyn-based artists to apply for the commission of a large-scale sculptural artwork for the hotel lobby, scheduled to open in Williamsburg in early 2016.
All submissions should be submitted online at art.levelhotel.com/apply-now.
During the initial stages, artists are asked to submit biographical information and images of previous completed projects only — please note that this is not a request for proposals. Entry will be open until September 15, 2014.
A jury of specialists, as well as representatives from the Level Hotel Brooklyn, will determine three finalists from the open call. The jury includes: James Bartlett, the Executive Director of the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA); Deborah Bright, the Chair of Fine Art at the Pratt Institute; and, Catherine J. Morris, the curator at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum.
The three finalists will each be given a budget of $1,000 to complete a detailed project proposal for presentation, including renderings, a budget, and a production timeline for their proposed artwork. From the three finalists’ presentations, the jury will award the commission to one artist. The budget for the final artwork will be $200,000, including artist’s fee and all production costs.
More information about the jurors, artist application process, eligibility, and project scheduling can be found on the Art Commission website, art.levelhotel.com.
