The Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan, in partnership with the University of Michigan Museum of Art, is accepting proposals for the 19/20 Roman Witt Residency Program through January 31, 2019.
Open to both established and emerging artists and designers, the Roman Witt Residency Program is designed to support the production of new work in collaboration with the students and faculty of the Stamps School larger university community.
A singular feature of the 2019-2020 Witt Residency is the Stamps School’s collaboration with the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA), who will provide a highly visible gallery in the museum — the Stenn Gallery — as an installation and workspace for the Witt Resident.
Witt Residents receive an honorarium of $20,000 in addition to housing, studio space, and up to $4,000 funding support for project materials. The duration of engagement is twelve weeks in residence served within the academic year. Both individuals and creative teams are encouraged to apply, however funding amounts are finite. The residency is expected to culminate in the realization of the proposed work, as well as its presentation.
The Witt Residency Program’s application process is conducted using SlideRoom, an online review system. A nominal $10-$15 submission fee applies which goes directly to Slideroom to cover their costs of hosting the service.
