The Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan is pleased to announce the return of the Roman Witt Residency Program. Open to both established and emerging artists and designers, the Roman Witt Residency Program is designed to support the creation of new work in collaboration with students and faculty of the Stamps School and the larger university community.
The Witt Residency serves a crucial purpose at the Stamps School, allowing the community to witness and partake in creating a defined work from concept to completion, bringing visibility to the creative process. For their efforts, Witt Residents receive an honorarium of $20,000 in addition to housing, studio space, and up to $5,000 funding support for project materials. The duration of engagement is 12 weeks in residence served within the academic year. Both individuals and creative teams are encouraged to apply; however, funding is finite and will not be increased. The residency is expected to culminate in the realization of the proposed work and its presentation to the campus and community.
Proposals for the 2023 academic year can be submitted through February 20, 2022. The Witt Residency Program’s application process is conducted using the online review system SlideRoom. A nominal $15 submission fee applies, which goes directly to SlideRoom for providing hosting services.
